Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and the Russian President's Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, discussed with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, a solution to the crisis in Syria.
"A detailed exchange of views took place on the situation in Syria, with emphasis on the importance of strengthening the political process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves with the help of the United Nations," said a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, reported by Russia Today.
The two sides stressed "the necessity of providing comprehensive humanitarian aid to Syria in accordance with the rules of international humanitarian law and the resolutions of the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly."
Vershinin had discussed in a telephone conversation with Pedersen on the fourth of last month the situation in Syria and ways to find a political solution to the crisis there.
