To do something about his back pain, a Geretsrieder took cannabis.

However, without consulting a doctor.

That cost him dearly.

- Because cannabis was more difficult to get in the first lockdown, a Geretsrieder wanted to play it safe next time.

He decided to stock up on a larger supply.

But before the 24-year-old student at the time of the crime could bring home the 30 grams of marijuana he had just acquired, the police removed the drugs from him.

The young man has now been sentenced to a fine of 1,350 euros for unauthorized possession of narcotic drugs. On October 16 last year, the defendant and two other young men were checked by the Geretsried police at “a well-known location in the city forest”. The three people did not find anything forbidden. Then he became aware of a mountain bike that was standing unblocked on a hedge, a police officer said in court. From the bike bag he pulled a bag containing 29.5 grams of marijuana. When asked, the defendant admitted “that the bike belongs to him, but he didn't want anything to do with the grass,” the witness said.

Ownership did not have to be discussed for long in court.

The defendant explained that he consumed the marijuana as a pain reliever.

The reason is strong, persistent back pain.

He broke a cervical vertebra in a swimming accident a few years ago.

Because an operation had been classified as very risky by the doctors, this was treated conservatively - with a neck brace and painkillers.

However, he did not tolerate the medication.

That's why he tried cannabis.

“It helped me relax the neck pain.

It had fewer side effects and I was able to sleep well again, ”reported the student.

"He acted out of great need, there is no criminal energy," argued defense attorney Michaela Schmidt-Eberth. The lawyer pleaded for a punishment that does not endanger the “professional career” of her client. “It was wrong of me to act on my own instead of going to a doctor,” said the defendant and emphasized: “I don't want to be a criminal.” He now has legal prescription for cannabis flowers that he can inhale. Judge Helmut Berger sentenced Geretsrieder to a fine of 90 daily rates of 15 euros each (a total of 1350 euros), which can be paid off in installments.
