The General Company for Drying Onions and Vegetables in Salamiyah, in the eastern countryside of Hama, began receiving the specified wheat from farmers and producers according to the Syrian specifications for grain, as part of the implementation of its plan to manufacture bulgur for the current season with a production quantity of 325 tons.
The general manager of the company, Engineer Basem Al-Hamwi, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the company began receiving wheat from farmers directly, pointing out that there are specialized committees to examine the samples received in the company’s laboratory, where wheat is received from the first and second grades according to the required specifications, and it is likely that the quantities received will increase in the coming days. With the completion of wheat harvest operations in various regions of the province.
Al-Hamwi added that the company intends to start the process of manufacturing bulgur, which takes place by receiving the durum wheat, sifting it before boiling it and drying it under the sun in the company’s yard, and then storing it in its warehouse, provided that the bulgur is crushed and manufactured on demand to be ready to be put on the market at competitive prices.
He pointed out that the company has taken a number of measures to encourage marketing operations by transporting the crop from the producers' fields in company cars to facilitate them in shipping their crops while expediting the disbursement of the values of the crop on the same day of delivery, according to the prices set by the Syrian Grain Corporation.
Regarding the production plan of the company, its director stated that it includes the manufacture of 1288 tons of onions and 325 tons of wheat.
It is noteworthy that the General Company for Drying Onions and Vegetables carried out an experiment, the first of its kind, this year, including the cultivation of the green thyme plant on an area of 1,000 square meters within the company’s headquarters, in order to produce, prepare and pack it locally, while trimming and organizing the company’s olive field in order to improve its olive production.
