Paris: bikers angry at paid parking

2021-07-04T22:34:17.033Z

Paris City Hall plans to introduce paid parking for motorized two-wheelers from January 1, 2022. Ile-de-France bikers

Protesting against the plan of the town hall of Paris to charge the parking of motorized two-wheelers on the public highway from January 1, 2022, a delegation of bikers symbolically installed this Sunday at the end of the afternoon on the forecourt of the 'Town Hall (4th), a giant wooden parking meter 2.50 m high on which it was written: “Parking = public service.

Free for all ”.

Organized by the French federation of angry motorcyclists (FFMC) of Paris and the inner suburbs two days before the presentation of the text in the Council of Paris, the demonstration which brought together 500 people according to the police headquarters, left at 2 p.m. Porte Dauphine (16th century) to arrive around 4:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.

Bikers don't want to let go

“Parking. Stop racketeering! Could be read on a poster plastered on the van at the head of the parade. “We refuse to pay to park our motorcycles in Paris. This idea is very discriminating because it amounts to protecting a Parisian elite who have the choice to travel by metro or by bike and to charge a grant to suburban residents who have had to leave the capital because of the soaring prices of the city. 'real estate when they come to work there every day,' says Jean-Marc Belloti, president of the FFMC of Paris and the inner suburbs.

This 60-year-old biker who lives in Montreuil (Seine Saint Denis), also denounces what he calls "the swindle of the tariff which will be applied to bikers (3 euros per hour in the first 11 districts, 2 euros in the others), or half of the amount charged to motorists (respectively 6 euros and 4 euros).

However, as you can put 3 or 4 motorcycles in a car parking space, the rate applied to motorized two-wheelers had to be divided by 4 compared to that reserved for other vehicles.

Otherwise, it means that in proportion to the space occupied, we will pay the highest price!

"

If the dialogue is not broken with the Town Hall, Jean-Marc Belloti warns: “We will fight to the end.

And we will attack the municipal decree as soon as it is published ”.
