Hackers suspected of attacking hundreds of companies in the United States and around the world have demanded $70 million in return for the data they hold.
Reuters quoted Alan Lyska, an expert at Recorded Future cybersecurity firm, as saying that the request came in a letter published by a cybercrime gang called Revel late last night.
According to the company's information, the cyber attack carried out by the gang last Friday is one of the most dramatic attacks in the chain of electronic hacking, which has increased dramatically recently, pointing out that the attack led to the suspension of a chain of Swedish stores that closed its 800 branches due to the disruption of the payments system.
The cyber gang also hacked Miami-based IT company Cassia, and hackers used company data to gain access to customers, paralyzing the computers of hundreds of companies around the world.
The company's executive said it was aware of the ransom request but did not immediately respond to other messages requesting the same.
At least 12 countries have been affected by this cyber attack.
