Xavier Bertrand will he be the candidate of the right in 2022?
While the president of the Hauts-de-France region confirms his place as "third man" in the polls, some within LR are pushing in this direction.
This is particularly the case of the vice-president of the party, Guillaume Peltier, one of the northerners' relatives.
"I decided to set an example, to give up myself any participation in a primary by strongly supporting, from today, the best placed among us, the only one capable of beating Emmanuel Macron and of doing win the right: I bring my support to Xavier Bertrand

"Like Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007"
According to the deputy of Loir-et-Cher, the president of Hauts-de-France, reelected in his region at the end of June, is
"the best placed to win"
, and would even be the
"natural candidate"
of the right.
“He does not belong to the Parisian microcosm, he did not do the ENA, is not a senior official, he has been the president of a large popular region for six years. Macron made him his number 1 public enemy during the regional meetings by sending five ministers against him

recalls. For Guillaume Peltier, Xavier Bertrand would even have
"become the number 1 alternative to macronism"
and that he
"embodies, like Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, popular France"
.
Guillaume Peltier therefore encourages his colleagues from his political family to join him as well.
“I respect those who want to engage in a primary but I tell them: 'You are on the wrong track, we do not have the right to engage a machine to lose and divide, 280 days before the presidential election.

Will he be listened to?
Guillaume Peltier had annoyed within LR by assuring the end of May that he had “the same convictions” as Robert Ménard.
His idea of re-establishing a Security Court which,
“on a case-by-case basis, could place in security detention”
, without appeal, was also badly passed internally.
