Several dancers have been detected with contact or are contaminated, and therefore cannot leave the territory.
“, They said, while South Africa, the country most affected by the virus on the African continent, recorded at the end of the week a record of 24,000 new infections in a single day.

The Sacrifice
was to be presented July 17-24. The organizers reported that it would be possible to exchange tickets for other shows, or simply get a refund. A heavy disappointment for those who were impatiently awaiting this show by Dada Masilo, revealed at the Lyon Dance Biennale in 2012. The choreographer is particularly known for her reinterpretations of classical ballets, notably that
of Swan Lake,
featuring dancers feet naked and men in tutu. In
The Sacrifice
, she was to revisit
Stravinsky's
famous
Rite of Spring
, originally choreographed by legendary dancer Vaslav Nijinsky for the Ballets Russes.

Despite this cancellation, the Festival d'Avignon still hopes to bring a great edition to its spectators, who will have to wear the mask throughout the fortified city.
The performance halls will however be able to accommodate as many spectators as in previous years.
