Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock has recently come under pressure: passages of her book are said to have been copied, parts of her résumé embellished and additional income reported belatedly. - Alexander Heisler, spokesman for the Green District Association and local council in Petershausen, emphasizes that "the mood here at the grassroots level is still positive". It was clear that now that the Greens had become the most important political competitor, the Union would like to “stay in the Chancellery with as much as possible”. This now includes that she “scans Annalena Baerbock for even the smallest flaws, the main thing is that you find something. Which mistakes some have already made in other parties is then quickly forgotten ".

Green district councilor Roderich Zauscher from Odelzhausen also speaks of a "massive campaign" that is underway against Baerbock. Basically, he has "no doubt that Annalena Baerbock is the right person" to implement green content for Germany. Would Robert Habeck have been the better candidate? "The content is more important," says Zauscher. But: "I would also have chosen Mr. Habeck."

Zauscher's district council colleague Marese Hoffmann at least admits that it was "very unpleasant and annoying", which was recently made known in connection with Annalena Baerbock. “Sure, these are no trivialities, she made mistakes,” emphasizes Hoffmann. On the other hand, “Scholz and Laschet also have a lot of construction sites that are not beautiful”. And the “damage to society” caused by Baerbock's sloppiness is less than what her competitors for the Chancellery would have done. Keyword: Wirecard and the role that the Ministry of Finance, led by Olaf Scholz, played in the scandal. Against this background, Baerbock continues to be “capable of being a Chancellor”. A move to Robert Habeck is “out of the question” for Marese Hoffmann.

Green City Councilor Richard Seidl complains about a "rather unobjective election campaign", but hopes that the voters "correctly classify" the allegations against Baerbock.

Of course, mistakes have happened, he also admits, but they are "irrelevant".

Ultimately, the discussion about Baerbock is based on a controlled campaign, “puffed up” by “scandalous” media and underpinned with “a lot of misogyny: you just don't trust a young mother to become Chancellor”.

Seidl and his fellow Greens therefore want to continue to rely on their party leaders and continue a “fair election campaign” until September.

Ultimately, according to district chairman Alexander Heisler, “it is then up to the voters to decide whether the campaign against Baerbock is so sensible and right”.
