"We cannot risk human lives." With these words, the organizers canceled the "Pride Parade" planned for Monday in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Several hundred violent opponents of the demonstration for the rights of the LGBTQ community had previously gathered in the city. Several camera teams were attacked, journalists injured and equipment damaged. The police apparently had no control over the situation. Some of the demonstrators were able to break into the office building of the organizers of the "Pride Parade". They tore off the rainbow flag - symbol of the LGBTQ movement - from the balcony and waved the Georgian national flag. The organizer of the canceled move accused the Georgian government of leaving him alone with the violence. The government does not adequately protect peaceful citizens in exercising their freedom of assembly. Georgia is considered a very conservative country, the Orthodox Church is very powerful. Clergymen also took part in the counter-protests. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili had also spoken out against the "Pride Parade".
