Deposit crockery on the rise

The gastronomy in the Würmtal has to change.

It continues to produce waste - even if it is compostable.

Deposit systems are on the rise.

Würmtal

- straws and disposable plastic cutlery are history.

Food to take away from the styrofoam packaging will not be around for long either.

Landlords are allowed to use up their supplies, then it's over.

In 2023 the whole thing will be tightened.

Then there is the reusable obligation.

Some restaurateurs in the Würmtal are already prepared for this.

"Everyone has to contribute," says Philip Canonica.

The EU-wide plastic ban now in force does not come as a surprise to him.

For over two years he has been selling the ice cream in “Tiziano Gelato & Caffé” in Planegg with cups and spoons that are 100 percent biodegradable.

He only has plastic straws - as long as there is enough stock in the basement.

Klaus Holzapfel relies on cardboard

Klaus Holzapfel has already completely banned plastic. In his restaurants "Joe Marino" in Graefelfing and "Sportiva" in Martinsried there have only been drinking straws made of glass or cardboard for three years. He never used styrofoam. Salads would get a container made of corn starch that dissolves in water. He delivers soups in paper cups, the rest of the dishes in cardboard boxes. All cardboard boxes are folded in a workshop for the disabled and are not printed. They are decorated with a sticker made of grass, provided with vegan printing ink. Styrofoam does not miss Holzapfel: “My boxes keep the heat wonderfully.” After all, people want to enjoy the food right away, he says. For larger quantities that need to be kept warm for two hours, he provides thermal reusable packaging. Then he raise a pledge.

In the Planegger “Mi Casa Su Casa” food is also usually given in cardboard containers.

"Every now and then people bring plastic containers with them," says Riccardo Iannuzzi.

He welcomes that. "I'm a green man," he says.

“I come from a small village in Italy.

When I was little it was full of butterflies.

Now we have no bees, no honey and no butterflies there. "

If in doubt, bring your own container

Antje Langemann from Lochhamer Pschorrhof says that guests have not always made it easy for her to protect the environment. When she asked them to bring their own containers during the lockdown, some would have replied: “I have nothing.” Langemann says: “Many are too lazy.” This attitude could now become out of fashion. “Styrofoam is hard to find,” says George Koutsas, waiter at the Kraillinger “Knossos”. The alternative doesn't work so well, he thinks. But he says: The guests are also allowed to bring their own vessels. "This is not a problem."

It is made particularly easy for the Würmtalern where there is a widespread deposit system. For example in the bistro in Refomhaus Mayr. Cornelia Hock joined the Rebowl deposit system there in March. As with Recup, the containers from the bistro can also be returned or reused in other participating restaurants. There are bowls of different sizes and shapes. "They are beautiful, light, stable and leak-proof", advertises Hock. “We look forward to more restaurateurs from the Würmtal participating, then the customer will have even more of it.” So far, the new dishes have been well received in her bistro. "We have already reordered."
