Hawthorne - Be it media companies, research into artificial intelligence or the automotive industry: There is hardly a business area in which Elon Musk * does not have a hand.

The 50-year-old is, among other things, the head of the Tesla Group and co-founder of the online payment service PayPal.

Space travel: Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars with SpaceX

The goal of SpaceX is to price space transport in such a way that it is possible to settle people on other celestial bodies, especially Mars.

So Mars should be colonized.

Above all, inexpensive rockets must be developed to transport both people and material to Mars.

With the Falcon 1 it was possible in 2008 for the first time to reach orbit with a completely privately developed liquid fuel rocket.

With the Starlink * satellite network operated by SpaceX, global Internet access is also to be created in the future.

With 1660 Starlink satellites in earth orbit (as of the end of June 2021), SpaceX is by far the largest satellite operator worldwide.

And it wasn't until April that SpaceX received the order * from NASA to transport the next astronauts to the moon.

Space company SpaceX: Elon Musk plans manned flight to Mars

Despite the declared Mars expedition by Elon Musk, no SpaceX spaceship has landed on Mars yet.

If Elon Musk has his way, Mars should be reached as early as 2026 * and the first humans will be able to live on Mars in the following years, as he explained at the 2016 International Astronautical Congress.

"If we shape life in a multi-planetary way, a day could come when some plants and animals die out on earth, but are still alive on Mars," tweeted Musk in mid-April.

German author prophesies flight to Mars by Elon Musk

This great goal was not only prophesied by Elon Musk himself. The German rocket researcher Wernher von Braun described in his book "Das Marssproject", which was published in Germany in 1948 and in English in 1952, how a manned Mars flight could work.

Elon Musk brings a special detail into play: Von Braun writes in his work that a man named "Elon" will lead people to Mars.

The discussion about the book started after Elon Musk quoted a popular line from the 1974 horror comedy “Young Frankenstein” at the end of December 2020: “Destiny, destiny. No escaping that for me. ”The quote, while fictional, refers to the notion that everyone's life is predetermined by either a divine plan or genetics, according to Business Insider magazine. Another Twitter user, Toby Li, replied to Elon Musk: “Speaking of fate, did you know that Von Braun's 1953 book Mars Project [sic!] Names a person named Elon who would bring people to Mars? Pretty crazy."

"The Marsproject" by Wernher von Braun - a man people called "Elon"

The huge scientific expedition to Mars outlined by Wernher von Braun envisaged a fleet of 10 spacecraft and a crew of 70 people.

Von Braun does not use scientific descriptions, but rather a narrative story to explain to the reader what a trip to Mars during the Cold War could look like, according to Business Insider magazine.

“The government of Mars consisted of ten men.

At its head was a man who was elected by the general population for five years at a time, whom the Martians called 'Elon', ”says the book by Wernher von Braun.

Elon Musk became aware of the tweet about the book and replied, "Are we sure that this is true?" Another user then posted a picture of the page in question in the English book edition, on which the name "Elon" is also mentioned.

Wernher von Braun - leading figure in rocket development during the Nazi era

Von Braun was a leading figure in the development of rocket technology during the Nazi era in Germany and later a pioneer of rocket technology in the United States *.

Between his twenties and early thirties, he worked on Nazi Germany's missile development program.

After the war he secretly moved to the USA with around 1,600 other German scientists, engineers and technicians as part of a secret US intelligence program called Operation Paperclip.
