While the construction site on the Lechtal bridge is slowly coming to an end and traffic can soon flow around Schongau and Peiting again, the municipality of Altenstadt is preparing for the next closure of the B17.

The renovation of Marienplatz is now a matter of urgency.

Altenstadt

- From July 19, the section of the B17 between Schongau-West and the Altenstadt Nord junction, which will have additional entrances and exits, will be closed. This means that from this point on, all traffic must be diverted via Altenstadt. Coming from Peiting on the B17 over the Lechtal bridge to the Schongau-West exit and from there towards the west to the junction of the Triebstraße (WM 6) towards Altenstadt. Via Burglachbergstrasse and Franz-Josef-Strauss-Strasse, the diversion leads to the Altenstadt Nord junction and back to the B17.

The schedule for the construction project is three weeks. Before it starts, however, there is a need to hurry in Altenstadt. As is well known, the renovation of Marienplatz is currently underway there. As Mayor Andreas Kögl and construction technician Herbert Blasi emphasize, the work on the confluence of Schongauer Straße / Triebstraße must be completed by July 19. In this section, water and telephone lines, fiber optic house connections with underground cabling and natural gas connections are currently being laid in the buildings around Marienplatz. In addition, the parking lot of the community chancellery will be completely redesigned. The Marienbrunnen will be relocated from the war memorial area about one and a half meters in front of the town hall.

A stairway down to Schönach is also planned.

There are three resting benches in this area.

The advantage: The square south of the town hall is being redesigned into a small lounge area.

It is perceived differently than before.

This is an essential element, says Mayor Andreas Kögl.

In the north, where the telephone booth formerly stood, a covered bicycle parking space is planned.

The redesign of Marienplatz costs 1.1 million euros

In the course of the redesign of Marienplatz, urgently necessary renovation work on the sewer and water pipes will be carried out in parallel, emphasizes Herbert Blasi.

Other costs: around 100,000 euros.

The financial outlay for the redesign of Marienplatz amounts to a total of 1.1 million euros, which the community does not have to raise alone.

The Office for Rural Development in Munich, incidentally also the developer for the redesign of Marienplatz, is assuming 65 percent of the costs for the village renewal.

As for the schedule, however, Altenstadt's mayor reckons that everything could be completed by mid-October.
