A new opinion poll, the results of which were published today, revealed that more than half of the Turkish people consider the system of government that was transformed in the country under pressure from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2018 as a failure.
Erdogan had transformed the system of government in Turkey from a parliamentary to an authoritarian presidential one, according to amendments approved by Parliament, which granted him wide powers with the aim of tightening his control over the joints of governance and monopolizing power in the country to strengthen his grip and continue to pursue his political opponents in civil and military institutions.
The poll, conducted by the Center for Social and Political Field Studies across Turkey last month, showed that 58.3 percent of Turks said Erdogan's presidential system is a failure, while 61.4 percent said that early general elections should be held.
Criticisms and voices of opposition to the policies of Erdogan and his ruling "Justice and Development" party are increasing as a result of the failed domestic economic policies that he has pursued for years, which have led to the deterioration of the economic living conditions of Turks, high rates of inflation and unemployment, and the deterioration of the exchange rate of the lira to record levels.
