Al-Dimas town council has placed land reclamation and the expansion of agricultural roads in cooperation with the Agricultural Association in order to increase the areas planted with fruit trees, especially olives, whose cultivation experience in the town has succeeded.
The head of the agricultural association in the town, Ahmed Batrauni, explained in a statement to SANA that the town of Dimas contains many unreclaimed agricultural areas, which necessitated addressing farmers who wish to reclaim their land to register and submit the necessary papers proving their ownership of it. He submitted many requests.
Batrauni indicated that after communicating with the General Union of Peasants and the Ministry of Agriculture, the latter decided on the requests and sent the necessary mechanisms for land reclamation, as it started one of the 8 dunums of land, pointing out that the work is carried out easily and gradually according to studied stages to reach the preparation of the lands for planting with fruit trees.
Tawfiq Al-Halabi is among the farmers who started to reclaim an area of their land, as he stressed that he is keen to reclaim and cultivate the entire area he owns, because agriculture is the basis of the farmer's livelihood, indicating that he has 5 dunums planted with all kinds of fruitful trees.
Head of the Department of Fruitful Afforestation in the Directorate of Agriculture in Damascus Countryside, Engineer Hussam Al-Din Al-Halabi, pointed out that the reclamation plan in the province includes 200 hectares of green belt and 250 land reclamation distributed in all regions.
Al-Halabi indicated that the green belt and fruitful afforestation project has so far implemented 54 hectares and work is underway to implement the project gradually.
The head of the Municipal Council, Talaat Saleh, indicated that 3 agricultural roads were built in the town with different lengths that reach a number of lands, but most of them need paving and asphalt, pending approval to allocate funds for paving and expanding other roads to reach the newly reclaimed lands.
