Dewang Primary School issued a statement on Sunday (4th) in response to the incident, stating that when the contractor moved into the school in 2009, the contractor had installed a closed-circuit television for teaching purposes, but it still failed to function and did not capture any images.

The school further explained that the then principal and administrative director had discussed the use of the relevant devices for teaching purposes, such as photographing the teacher's teaching situation for absent students to learn, but they gave up due to a number of reasons.

The school stated that in accordance with the Privacy Commissioner’s "Guidelines for CCTV Monitoring and the Use of Aerial Cameras", the CCTV in the classroom does not have a video recording function, so CCTV monitoring notices have not been posted.
The statement also stated that since moving into the new school building, the school has never received any enquiries or concerns about CCTV from teachers or parents.
