Activists said some of their equipment was broken and that they were forced to cancel the parade.
"It is impossible to put into words the feelings and thoughts at the moment. This is my workplace, my home, my family today. We are left alone in the face of blatant violence," tweeted Thames Suzashvili, one of the activists.
The Interior Ministry urged activists to cancel their parade for security reasons.
The ministry issued a statement saying that several groups had gathered and demonstrated today and that journalists had been violently attacked.
"We are once again calling on Tbilisi Pride participants to refrain from the 'Honor March' due to the scale of counter-demonstrations planned by rival groups."
The prime minister said the march was "unlikely".

Ahead of the march, the Georgian prime minister said it was a "unreasonable" march, likely to cause a public confrontation and unacceptable by most of the country's citizens.
Human rights organizations have condemned the violence today and accused the prime minister of strengthening extremist organizations.
"A violent right-wing mob, backed by the church and reinforcing the prime minister's unusually irresponsible statement, gathered in central Tbilisi to prevent the Pride Parade, attacked journalists and stormed the Pride offices," wrote Giorgi Gogia, a Human Rights Watch worker.
