The AfD member of the Bundestag Martin Hebner died on Wednesday at the age of 61.

Apparently he had been seriously ill for a long time.

The party praised the Bavarian from Dießen am Ammersee via Twitter as an “exceptionally lovable, at the same time humble and highly committed colleague”.

The computer scientist with the Starnberg / Landsberg am Lech constituency moved into the Bundestag in 2017 after being surprisingly nominated as the Bavarian top candidate for right-wing populists. At that time he was mainly considered a critic of the euro. In the Bundestag he was, among other things, a member of the committee for EU affairs. The party names direct democracy, the rule of law and digitization as the political focus of its work on the Internet. The qualified computer scientist worked as a freelance IT consultant. He leaves a family with four children.

Last Sunday, his family said on his Facebook profile that his father was suffering from a brain tumor and would die. At the same time, she had complained there of repeated attacks on her home. The night before it was again covered with threats. Hebner himself had been attacked and beaten on the street months earlier, although he was already seriously ill.
