Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann informed the state parliament committee on Wednesday about the current status of the investigation into the attack in Würzburg.

Würzburg - It has been almost two weeks since the terrible attack in downtown Würzburg *.

Three people lost their lives that day.

Even more were injured in the knife attack.

Today, Wednesday (July 7th), the number of injuries was revised upwards again.

Knife attack in Würzburg: Herrmann presents new figures for the injured

In total, there were three dead women as well as five critically injured people and four slightly injured, said Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) on Wednesday in a parliamentary committee in Munich. So far, the police had always spoken of two slightly injured. They meant a 26 year old woman and a 52 year old man. It is now clear that a 38-year-old and another 52-year-old were injured that evening.

Herrmann said the perpetrator attacked many victims on June 25 with a kitchen knife whose blade is around 33 centimeters long.

Above all, the Somali stabbed the head and neck of those affected.

It is still unclear whether the 24-year-old targeted women.

“That can of course also be a coincidence.” A 24-year-old, a 49-year-old and an 82-year-old died in the department store where he got the knife.

Three women aged 52, 39 and 73 years were life-threateningly injured.

An 11-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were also seriously injured.

Knife attack in Würzburg: the assassin's past is illuminated

An Islamist background for the crime cannot yet be ruled out, said Herrmann. Nevertheless, there are "weighty indications of a psychological impairment". The investigations have not yet been concluded. There are also investigations into the history of the 24-year-old in his home country Somalia. It is unclear whether he was critical of the government at the time and how he faced the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab. “It's all a bit diffuse,” said Herrmann.

The 24-year-old was first registered in Germany in 2015.

Since then, he has attracted attention several times for psychiatric problems.

So far, the authorities have had no evidence that the man could endanger other people.

According to the investigators, the requirements for permanent placement in a psychiatric hospital were not met.
