Rescuers found
four more bodies in
the rubble of the collapsed Florida condo on
Monday
after crews resumed their search after demolishing what was left of the structure.
The first three victims were recovered Monday morning, Miami-Dade Deputy Fire Chief Raide Jadallah told family members.
Another body was found hours later.
In this way,
the death toll rose to 28
, while
117 people
are still missing.
Of the 28 fatalities,
26 have been identified
.
The latest are the marriage of Ingrid Ainsworth, 66, and Tzvi Ainsworth, 68, who had lived in Australia for 20 years.
Rescuers were given the green light Sunday to continue searching for the collapse victims after demolition crews planted explosives to tear down the rest of the structure.
The demolition occurred "exactly as planned" around 10:30 p.m. Sunday,
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava
told
The Associated Press
.
However, after eleven days of disaster,
the possibility of finding survivors is "almost zero,"
said Golan Vach, an expert who is part of one of the Israeli teams at the scene, to Local 10.
"We try to be optimistic but
we are also realistic,
" he added.
"The circumstances we've seen are too difficult to say, professionally, that we think we have a good chance of finding someone alive," Vach said.
Only one survivor, a teenager, was pulled from the rubble in the early hours of relief operations.
No other was found despite the mobilization of rescuers, who came from all over the United States, and even from Israel and Mexico.
Some of the new debris was immediately removed so rescuers could begin moving into areas of the underground parking lot that are of special interest.
Once there, they hope to get a clearer picture of the gaps in the rubble and where some of the 117 people believed to have been trapped in the
collapse of the South Champlain Tower in Surfside on June 24 could be
.
The proximity of Tropical Storm Elsa had added urgency to the demolition plans, as forecasts pointed to strong winds in the area by Monday.
It was feared that the
damaged structure could fall
, posing a danger to rescuers and preventing them from working in some areas.
Part of the remaining building was displaced on Thursday, forcing work to be suspended for 15 hours.
