The political system is in turmoil this morning (Tuesday) after MK Amichai Shikli (right) led to the overthrow of the citizenship law in the Knesset plenum under Likud pressure - as published in Walla !.

In the nocturnal vote, MK Shikli, who has expressed his opposition to the government since its inception, decided to vote against the law in the plenum, after the coalition sought to turn the vote into a motion of confidence in the government.

He explained his decision on the grounds that his position against the government was known - and the law fell through.

With the fall of the law, the Likud called the outline of the compromise reached as "a corrupt deal sewn in the dark of night between Bennett Lapid and Shaked and RAAM and Meretz crashed thanks to a determined struggle waged by the opposition led by Netanyahu."

The Likud claimed that Bennett and Lapid wanted to buy two votes of RAAM in exchange for the Knesset of thousands of people who endanger the Zionist identity and security of the State of Israel. "In the past, such things were forced by judicial decisions.

This time, there was no justification for the bribery deal that was rejected by the Knesset. "The Likud even called for supporting their initiative and voting in favor of a basic law: immigration - which will be put to a vote later.

Members of religious Zionism joined in, calling Bennett and Shaked's move a "shame." According to them, the two "sold Israel, after building a career on lies and fraud, defected to the left and gave the State of Israel's iron sheep assets to supporters of terrorism. The temporary order was also punctured and damaged it. "

Support from another direction came from their opposition partners - members of the joint list. The list's chairman, MK Ayman Odeh, said that "although the Meretz and the USSR preferred to vote for the unity of the government, the racist ban on family reunification was lifted. It is a victory for tens of thousands of families who have been waiting for nearly two decades for the right to live together. "He tweeted:" And thank you to all the opposition factions for mobilizing to overthrow the racist and discriminatory law. "

The law fell in the plenum after an agreement was reached during the night with the factions that opposed it - Meretz and Ra'am. The turning point came after the coalition sought to turn the vote into a motion of confidence in the government. They stood with him on the balcony outside the Knesset members' buffet next to the plenum and insisted that everyone vote with the position of the opposition or the coalition.

Kish told him: "This is distrust, let's vote against the government" and Shaked tried to persuade back: "Do not overthrow the law."

Kish replied, "This law must be overthrown."

Finally MK Shikli objected, and the proposal fell after 59 MKs voted in favor and 59 against.

Two members of Ra'am Mansour Abbas and Walid Taha voted in favor, and two members of their party, Said al-Kharoumi and Mazen Ghanaim, abstained. The law is expected to expire today at midnight.

After the vote, right-wing Knesset members called on Prime Minister and party chairman Naftali Bennett to declare Shikli a resignation from the faction. Said Shikli. "One that starts the night with a one-year extension of the law and ends it with a six-month extension, which begins with 1,500 permits and ends with over 3,000.

Israel needs a functioning Zionist government, not a Shatnaz that depends on halting the voices of RAAM and Meretz.
