Waste plastic is overflowing, and Hong Kong discarded more than 200 plastic beverage containers per capita last year.
The Environmental Protection Department recently conducted a public consultation on the "Plastic Beverage Container Producer Responsibility Program". It is recommended to collect recycling levies from plastic bottle beverage suppliers, and it is difficult to attract the public to recycle with a rebate for each plastic bottle.
The consultation result has not yet been released. The Environmental Protection Department today (6th) invited representatives from the business, recycling and environmental sectors to exchange views on issues.
Before the exchange meeting, a number of environmental groups petitioned outside the government’s administration, requesting the government to introduce a "bottom-per-bottle system" with a minimum deposit of one yuan.
