During a telephone conversation with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoev, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Afghanistan and other regional issues.
The Russia Today website quoted a Kremlin statement as saying that during the call yesterday evening, Presidents Putin and Merziyev exchanged views on regional files, especially in light of the worsening situation in Afghanistan.

Controlling a number of areas, stressing that the government forces are preparing a counterattack
to regain these areas.
The statement added that the two sides also discussed issues related to the bilateral agenda and commended the development of strategic partnership and alliance relations between Russia and Uzbekistan, and it was agreed to continue contacts between the two sides.
