There is now a mobile chicken coop in Pasenbach as well. “Julias Hühnerglück has been delivering fresh organic eggs from the farm for around four weeks. “I would never have dreamed of doing something like this,” admits Julia Großmann-Neuhäusler in the midst of her flock of chickens while the youngest of her four children, son Xaver, strokes the animals.

Pasenbach

- It all began on the “most beautiful day of life”: “We were given four chickens and a rooster for the wedding, which my husband actually wanted to slaughter right away,” remembers Julia Großmann-Neuhäusler.

But she was strictly against it.

So the animals stayed alive.

Julia wasn't satisfied with always having fresh eggs from now on.

She wanted chicks too.

Soon there were eight chickens that the Großmann-Neuhäusler family owned.

But why not anymore?

And so the idea of the chicken farm with 380 chickens and the associated four roosters was born.

“It doesn't work without the males,” explains Julia, “they determine where the chickens eat or whether they return to the barn in the evening.” If you observe the flock, this is quickly confirmed: one rooster for around 100 chickens, and all of them do what the lord wills!

Forage is picked around the chicken coop, and for this reason the mobile pen is moved every few days so that new fresh grass is available for the poultry.

In the chicken coop it is ensured that there is always fresh water and feed available, the eggs that are laid are removed daily.

The eggs may only be called organic eggs under strict conditions, for example with regard to the run-out area, feed or cleanliness.

As laying hens, Julia Großmann-Neuhäusler decided on the “Lohmann-Brown” breed, a domestic chicken breeding line that is trusting and robust. The operator is actually not afraid of chicken thieves like foxes and hawks. An electric fence protects the enclosure and the residents in it. Two goats are to be purchased, which act like guard dogs. Of course, protection is also provided by the chicken coop, which opens early in the morning and closes in the evening. "Every day when the children are asleep, we take another lap and see if all the chickens are in the barn," confirms Julia.

Since their idea is just getting started, the organic eggs are currently only available in the Edeka market and in “Großmann's Biohaisl” on the farm. If the experience remains so positive, Julia Großmann-Neuhäusler wants to try in the near future to produce and market pasta herself, all in organic quality, of course.
