Richard Reischl, mayor of the Hebertshausen community and CSU member, is extremely dissatisfied with his party's corona policy.

It is now clear in a Facebook post.

Hebertshausen

- The fact that the CSU's corona policy, guided by Prime Minister Markus Söder, certainly offers room for discussion is not new.

However, it has not yet happened that she encourages an experienced and hard-working mayor to consider leaving the party.

Until yesterday.

Richard Reischl (CSU), mayor of the Hebertshausen municipality in the Dachau district since 2014 and a passionate critic of his party, ventured his displeasure with the Söder government in a long and sharply worded Facebook post on Wednesday, July 7th.

The stumbling block was a topic that had already sparked lively debates in all Bavarian municipalities in the last few days: The purchase of air conditioning units at all Bavarian schools and daycare centers, funded with 200 million euros by the Bavarian state.

A promise that makes Reischl angry for several reasons.

Corona: Bavaria wants air purifiers in all classrooms - the mayor rages heavily against the decision

The state government wanted to invest 50 million euros in room fans last year, but only a few devices were actually purchased. The reason for this is that, according to the unanimous opinion of experts, regular ventilation in classrooms cannot be replaced by such ventilation systems. The state would invest 200 million and the children would still end up in the cold, Reischl said in his post. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Culture has already announced that, despite the expensive room ventilators, the requirement to wear a mask and change lessons cannot be waived across the board.

Most parents are maximally insecure, according to Reischl, who is himself the father of two daughters.

He sees the investment in room ventilators as an attempt to soothe angry minds in order to cover up, shortly before the federal election, that the CSU government with the previous corona policy with regard to schools and day-care centers has rather “earned a golden raspberry than an Oscar ”.

The benefit has not been proven, but the power consumption is enormous, especially if several devices are required per classroom.

Reischl complains that the costs for regular maintenance ultimately remain with the municipalities.

"Superman Söder" and false promises: Hebertshauser mayor vent his anger at the CSU

"Superman Söder" promised air purifiers in all classrooms - that is well over 200,000 pieces. Manufacturers have so far agreed to around a tenth of that, explains Reischl and railed against the Prime Minister: "Anyone who tries to pursue politics with people's fear is a detonator." He believes that it is wrong to invest such huge sums in air purifiers without proof of their effectiveness , since it would contradict the oath he has taken to deal responsibly with the tasks and tax resources assigned to him. In this regard, Reischl is by no means alone in his opinion. Numerous state and local politicians had already spoken out publicly against the procurement of the air purifiers.

Others, such as Eijnder Mier, an expert in air cleaning devices from the Erding district, consider the acquisition to be sensible.

Professor Christian Kähler from the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Neubiberg is also a strong proponent of air purifiers.

He thinks that simply opening the window works just as well or even better "is total nonsense."

Resignation from the party?

Mayor Richard Reischl wants to continue fighting against "rubbish" of the CSU government

Ultimately, Reischl calls on the CSU to finally focus on deeds, rather than making false promises. “We don't want fairy tales, we want different politics,” says Reischl. Despite all the displeasure, he himself will remain loyal to the party because he does not want to leave when things get difficult, but rather “fight against this junk”. He only wants to give up when something changes - or he can no longer. In fact, Reischl himself has long been known for his critical remarks about his party. As early as 2018, he had publicly threatened to leave the party because he found the CSU's arguments regarding asylum policy too xenophobic. Reischl also struggled hard with the state's educational policy. Therefore, last year he wrote an open letter to Minister of Education Michael Piazolo.Even before he took office as mayor in 2014, Reischl had already stated in an interview that he did not always conform to the policies of the CSU. The committed local politician has remained true to this attitude so far. His current Facebook post is titled: "Then as now - the quarrel with the CSU!"
