Former US presidents are also protected by the Secret Service. Donald Trump demands money from the state to accommodate the emergency services. Only someone else has done this before - Joe Biden.

Donald Trump had to leave the White House in January.

However, the lives of former US presidents continue to be protected by Secret Service officials.

In the case of Trump, however, this is expensive: he bills the bodyguards for overnight stays in his luxury accommodations.

As the Washington Post reports, a Secret Service document now reveals that Trump charged his bodyguards almost $ 10,200 for guest rooms in May alone.

The rooms are located on the grounds of Trump's Bedminster Golf Club in the US state of New Jersey.

The Secret Service made its cost records public due to inquiries from the population.

The document shows that Trump, despite loud criticism, continues to charge his bodyguards for overnight stays.

As early as May, it became known that the Republican had asked for $ 40,000 for housing the bodyguards in the first few months of the year.

The sum was supposed to cover the cost of the overnight stays in Trump's luxury Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach.

The former president spent the time there after leaving the White House.

At the beginning of May he moved to the golf club - along with his bodyguards.

Joe Biden was asking for rent from the Secret Service as Vice President

The figures known so far show that US taxpayers have paid more than $ 50,000 to his company since the end of Trump's tenure.

According to the Washington Post, legal experts do not see this as a violation of the law.

There are no laws that would prohibit Trump's company from charging the Secret Service for the use of rooms - neither during nor after the presidency.

According to the Washington Post, only one other protégé of the Secrets Service asked for rent for the use of real estate in the recent past.

According to this, Joe Biden, in his position as Vice President, charged $ 2,200 a month between 2011 and 2017 for the use of a cottage on his property in Delaware.

In total, costs of 171,600 were incurred.

Since taking office, Biden is said to have not sent any bills to the Secret Service, the Washington Post quoted a spokesman for the President as saying.

According to the newspaper, the costs that Trump caused the Secret Service were already higher in the first three months of his tenure than those that Biden caused in his entire political career.
