An alleged aerial bomb was found in Augsburger Strasse.

An evacuation was planned for Thursday.

Just a false positive, as it turned out.

Regensburg - It was a shock for the residents: At the beginning of the week, a supposed aerial bomb was found during exploratory work in Augsburger Strasse.

An evacuation of the area around the site was planned for Thursday (July 8th).

Now, however, the all-clear has been given: the alleged World War II ordnance from the Second World War was not an aircraft bomb, but an iron bathtub.

The city of Regensburg * announced this in a press release on Wednesday evening (July 7th).

Regensburg: Not a bomb, but a bathtub - evacuation canceled

In the run-up to the planned bomb disposal, superficial excavations would have shown that it could not be a dud from the Second World War, it continues.

The demolition expert therefore assumes that the existing bomb crater has been filled with bulky waste, including an iron bathtub.

The city of Regensburg now informs that the large-scale evacuation around the site that was planned for Thursday has been canceled and asks for your understanding for the inconvenience.

If the suspicion of an aerial bomb had been confirmed, residents within 400 to 500 meters of the site would have had to vacate their apartments and houses.

Kindergartens, schools and retirement homes should also have closed and evacuated.

Regensburg: About 100,000 undiscovered duds suspected in Germany

Finding so-called duds, i.e. unexploded aerial bombs, is not uncommon in Germany.

Bomb finds have been part of everyday life since the end of the Second World War.

It is assumed that there are still around 100,000 undiscovered duds nationwide.

Even more than 75 years after the end of the war, these continue to pose a threat, as the detonator and explosive material are usually still functional.
