"Lieberman's decree", "puts us all in a cycle of poverty", "does politics on the backs of children", these are just some of the reactions on the ultra-Orthodox street following Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman's decision to abolish state subsidies for daycare for children in ultra-Orthodox families And does not work or study.

Michal, a mother of seven children, runs a daycare center with more than 70 children, most of whom she claims are from ultra-Orthodox families in which the father of the family is a student at the kollel and the mother works. "If Lieberman carries out his plot we will have to close the home next year, our employer will not be worth it because most families will not be able to send their children, and some of the women will have to sit at home instead of working," she said. "We conduct this lifestyle out of choice and ideal. Today we are in a state of complete uncertainty about the future of our families and children because of these decrees."

Michal believes that many parents will not send their children to dormitories at a full price of about NIS 3,000 a month.

"Their economic situation will not allow them. What Lieberman wants is to put an entire public in the cycle of poverty. It will cause a situation where women will not go out to work, and will stay at home to take care of their children. He will lose his salary."

"How is it conceivable that a minister in a democratic state, a state that engraves equality on its banner, will cause discrimination and alienation? Will discriminate between children and women. And what is it sitting on? On the political sediments of the past."

Miri Kosbor, an ultra-Orthodox mother who recently planned to return to full-time work after a difficult year at Corona, also says that she has to recalculate her route, but that for a moment she did not think about changing her lifestyle. "My husband is sitting and studying, he gets a scholarship from the Ministry of Religions in the amount of 550 shekels, no one forced it on us and he could have been a successful businessman," Cosbor said. "It's a partnership of both of us having one salary at home and he's going to study. My plan was to go back to work a full day, and have our baby go into daycare. Now I'll have to take him to a cheaper setting. If Lieberman's plan was to change something in our lives, it would not happen. "One student will change his mind and that's why he will go to work. Studying Torah is an ideological choice. NIS 2,000 will not change that choice. We will return to private caregivers at home."

Cosbor says the finance minister's decision is "discrimination against children, not necessarily ultra-Orthodox. These babies are told 'you do not deserve it because your father is studying Torah'. Where have we heard such a thing in a Jewish state?".

Even ultra-Orthodox professionals who in recent years have been involved in the integration of ultra-Orthodox in the employment market believe that the impact of Lieberman's decision will be the opposite of its original purpose.

Motti Feldstein, CEO of the KMH Foundation, which deals with the promotion of ultra-Orthodox professional advancement, said that Lieberman "chose to sabotage a real sabotage in efforts to integrate ultra-Orthodox people into employment."

According to Feldstein, "Working ultra-Orthodox women whose husbands study at the kollel, who earn not high wages and pay accordingly in dormitories, will now have to stay at home because it will not pay them to go to work and spend half a salary on dormitories."

Feldstein claims that if this decision is implemented, "all the great government effort that led to an unprecedented achievement in which close to 80% of ultra-Orthodox women work - could go down the drain."
