The Abitur exams have been passed.

At the Penzberger Gymnasium, five students graduated with a grade of 1.0 this year.

Before the graduation ceremony on July 16, they spoke to the local newspaper about exam stress in the corona lockdown, self-motivation in homeschooling and what they will miss at school.

Penzberg - This year's Abitur exams certainly took place under very special conditions for the students. Not only that the phases of distance and alternation classes overshadowed her exam preparations. At times it also seemed uncertain whether the Abitur could even be written this year because of the pandemic.

Constantin Pfannschmidt didn't let that stress her. "I looked towards the whole thing relatively relaxed," says the 17-year-old from Penzberg. He liked the fact that homeschooling gave him more free time, because: “I wasn't a big fan of other authorities who had my time,” he explains. School never played the most important role in his life. He has too many other interests for that. For his Abitur he only learned what was absolutely necessary. “I just developed a good minimization strategy,” says Constantin with a laugh, who graduated from high school in astrophysics and Latin, among other things.

Johanna Heiss, on the other hand, always enjoyed going to school.

Learning at home was still easy for her, says the 17-year-old from Benediktbeuern, because: “I'm tidy and structured.

I just sat down. ”For example for her high school subjects English and Spanish.

Most of all, Felix Heumann missed talking to classmates during his last year of school. In addition, because of the pandemic, numerous events "that actually make up school life" were not possible, according to the 18-year-old Penzberger; For example, the study trip at the beginning of the twelfth grade was just as canceled as various school parties. But Felix can also see positive things from the past school year. For example the fact that less schoolwork was written because of the pandemic. “That made it possible for us to intensify our Abitur preparation especially in the last few weeks of school.” And since at times only the final classes were allowed into the school house, the tenant of the cafeteria - “who, by the way, cooks very well” - was “exclusively” for these students and the teachers . "That was very practical."

All three have always been good students, they say.

She is of course happy that they finished school with a 1.0.

But it doesn't surprise them too much.

Just as little as Ludwig Lenz, who, despite his always very good grades, had prepared intensively for the exams because: "I wanted to be as well prepared for the future", says the 17-year-old from Bernried, who received his Abitur in music, among other things and did Latin.

Felix also studied diligently, but always paid attention to a good balance between learning and free time when preparing for Abi.

“Even when it was stressful, I kept free time slots in which to pursue my hobbies.” He can only recommend that to younger students because: “The prospect of free time has always been very motivating for me, and I think that doesn't just apply to me. "

He did not have certain rituals before the exams.

“But I tried not to deal with the exam material immediately before each exam.” So he did not discover any gaps in knowledge that could no longer be made up and was therefore less nervous.

Jonas Schramek also paid attention to a good “work-life balance” when studying, as he says.

He also tried to create potential sources of distraction, such as the cell phone, out of reach.

“And during the distance lesson, I often wrote myself a daily plan.

It increased my productivity considerably, ”says the 19-year-old Penzberger, who graduated from high school in physics and Latin, among other things.

The five are now enjoying the time after the exams.

“It's nice to live so freely,” says Johanna.

Nevertheless, she misses the school: "It has been our life until now." And even if everyday school life has not always been nice.

“It was often funny too,” says Ludwig.

The contact with classmates has already decreased significantly.

After a few weeks, a new chapter in life will begin for all of them. Johanna wants to study bio-informatics, Constantin wants to study math and physics, and Felix wants to start studying mechanical engineering in the winter semester. "Later I would like to work in research or development in the mechanical engineering industry." Jonas would like to study medicine, and Ludwig will first complete an annual internship in the medical field and dedicate himself to his great passion, music, before he too will study medicine.
