Foreign Minister Yair Lapid met today (Thursday) with his Jordanian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman a-Safdi, on the Jordanian side of the Allenby Bridge. This was the first meeting between senior Israeli and Jordanian officials since the establishment of the new government in Israel. According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Spadi told Lapid that "if the Palestinian residents were evacuated from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, it would be a war crime," and clarified that Israel should promote a two-state solution.
During the meeting, Lapid and Spadi agreed to increase Jordan's export potential to the West Bank from $ 160 million a year to $ 700 million a year. The understandings were formed during the time of former Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, after the Jordanians had been asking Israel for several years to approve an increase in production for the West Bank. The two also agreed that Israel will sell Jordan an additional 50 million cubic meters of water during 2021. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett approved the move a few days ago.
Contrary to the assertive statements issued by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Lapid said: "The Kingdom of Jordan is a neighbor and important partner of the State of Israel. The Foreign Ministry will continue to hold ongoing talks to preserve and strengthen relations, expand economic cooperation for the benefit of the two countries."
Also, the Foreign Minister’s Office said that the final details of the water deal will be completed by the professional teams in the coming days.

According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Spadi stressed at the meeting that a two-state solution is the only solution to the conflict, and asked that Israel not take action that undermines the two-state solution.
Following the understandings with Israel on exports to the West Bank, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry also said that in the coming days there will be a tripartite meeting of representatives of Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority to summarize the details of the export agreement.
