A 17-year-old teenager was shot in the head while returning home from a Houston Astros baseball game, local authorities reported Wednesday.
Houston police indicated that the victim, identified by his family as David Xavier Castro, had died of his injury, but later corrected his initial statement and noted that he
was
still
alive and on assisted breathing.
"We have learned that the victim has not passed away and we sincerely apologize to his family. The teenager is currently on life support. Please join us in praying for this young man and his family," said the Houston Police Department in the social network Twitter.
The young man left the game with his father and brother around 11 pm on Tuesday, according to police.
The man said he had a traffic incident with a person in a white car, with whom he "exchanged hand gestures."
The suspect followed them in his car, according to his account, and fired "several shots at the father's truck
,
hitting one of the male passengers at least once," police said.
