Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned against attempts by Western countries to destabilize his country before the parliamentary elections to be held next September by inciting protests.
Sputnik news agency quoted Lavrov as saying today: “It can be assumed that before the upcoming parliamentary elections there will be new attempts to undermine and destabilize the situation and incite some protests, even violent ones, as the West always likes to do.”
He added, "The West may launch a campaign not to recognize the results of the elections," stressing that "these scenarios drawn by the West will not come true."
The Secretary of the Russian National Security Council Nikolai Patrushev indicated earlier that there are external attempts to inflame social tension in Russia before the parliamentary elections.
The next elections will be held in Russia at different levels, including the parliamentary elections, on the 19th of next September, on the day of the unified vote.
