More space for cyclists in front of the Seeforum: bushes and flagpoles should give way

Rottach-Egern -

Rottach-Egern

wants to be bike-friendly.

But, says Mayor Christian Köck (CSU): The cyclists should also be friendlier.

Both aspects were now a topic in the local council.

According to the agenda, the aim was to pave a safe path for cyclists past the Seeforum towards the health resort.

But Köck also saw the time had come for a passionate appeal.

A good togetherness is required in the concept that Christian Stadler, as spokesman for the cycling working group, presented to the local council.

It is the result of two meetings and an on-site visit with Peter Schiffmann, traffic expert at the district office.

The aim is to spare cyclists a neuralgic point on the circular route around Tegernsee: the heavily frequented and narrow junction with Seestrasse at Schuhhaus Angl.

As an alternative route for cyclists, a connection marked with pictograms is to be created between the footpath and bike path at the entrance to the village and the Max-Josef-Weg in the direction of the health resort.

To this end, more space must be created in front of the Seeforum.

The bushes in front of the entrance should give way, the flagpoles should move to the building.

The street lighting could be replaced by LED spotlights.

In practice, many cyclists are already curving through this area.

"The cyclist has already looked for the route that we are now making available to him legally," explained Stadler.

The principle remains that pedestrians have priority and cyclists are obliged to be considerate.

Decision in principle made

The proposal met with unanimous approval in the local council. This is only a fundamental decision. “We're not talking about the finer points yet,” explained Mayor Köck. With the basic OK in the back, the working group will concretize the planning with the official technician of the municipality. The group not only has the Seeforum area in view, but also the intersection on the southern main road from the center of Rottach to Weissach.

With all the considerations about comfortable bike connections, Köck also sees the needs of pedestrians. "I have had a lot of complaints lately," he reported. Uninhibited adult cyclists use sidewalks and put older passers-by in particular at risk: “People get knocked over when they come out of a shop.” The behavior of the Radl-Rambos shows selfishness and ignorance: “It's not a Rottacher, it's a social problem. "

Appeals are of little help in the opinion of Thomas Tomaschek (Greens).

The problem is different: “Cyclists have no space.” Road space is essentially only available for drivers and pedestrians.

In urban areas, cars and cyclists are traveling at almost the same speed, explained Tomaschek.

"The drivers torment their way through the traffic jam and the cyclists have e-bikes." It is problematic to combine the fast bicycle traffic with the slow pedestrians.

It is important to give cyclists the space they need: "I'm happy about everyone who leaves their car."

Concept for birch moss in demand

The municipality would also like a cycle path concept for the Birkenmoos sports facility, where the tennis air dome will soon be built. Above all, the youth should come safely to the various sports facilities. In view of the size of the facility - 111,000 square meters - and the large number of now 25 user groups, this task seems too complex to the cycling working group. "We'll play the ball back," explained Stadler. The municipality should first create a usage concept for the "heavily overcrowded" area, then a traffic concept could follow.
