The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, arrived in Tokyo on Thursday two weeks before the scheduled opening of the Olympic Games, weighed down by the pandemic.
Mr. Bach greeted reporters upon his arrival at the hotel where he will be required to adhere to a three-day quarantine.
He landed in Tokyo on the day the Japanese government debated a new state of health emergency that could reduce or ban spectators altogether at the Games.
