Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic, met with a delegation from the Iranian Parliament headed by Abbas Kelro, Vice Chairman of the Iranian-Syrian Friendship Committee in the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly.

The Iranian delegation congratulated President Bashar al-Assad on the victory of the presidential elections, stressing that those elections had multiple political meanings and connotations because they took place on time on the one hand and due to the wide public turnout that characterized it on the other.

In turn, Shaaban stressed that parliamentary cooperation is important for relations between countries, congratulating her on the success of the recent Iranian presidential elections and the victory of the new Iranian president, Ibrahim Raisi, and stressing that Syria and Iran will remain a front for the realization of truth, and that political relations between the two countries must parallel cultural relations in order for the two peoples to know each other in Syria and Iran on the Syrian and Iranian cultures.

Shaaban discussed the possibility and necessity of establishing joint research centers that consolidate the culture of resistance because it is important for the continuation of the resistance, stressing the need for joint interest in scientific research and media within the institutional framework, noting the Sino-Iranian agreement and what it constitutes in the face of Western hegemony.

In addition, the Iranian delegation spoke about the important role of women in the Syrian and Iranian societies, pointing to the need to document the facts related to the war on Syria, and that the United States today has begun to turn to soft power after being convinced that hard power is no longer feasible.

The meeting was attended by the Iranian ambassador in Damascus Mahdi Sobhani.
