Today, the activities of a workshop to launch the work on the strategy of reviving the straight street and its entrances, organized by Aleppo Governorate and the Syrian Trust for Development, concluded with the participation of a number of specialized engineers and a group of Aleppo University students to discuss the first document for the revival and restoration of the old markets, which includes an accurate and comprehensive description of 37 markets and nearly 1,100 shops and nature Its damages and its structural condition are in addition to the infrastructure and economic development required by the old markets.

Hussein Diab, Governor of Aleppo, stressed during his speech the importance of the participation of university professors and students in the workshop, embodying the concept of linking the university to the community, which contributes to joint efforts to revive the old city and return life to it, as it was for Aleppo to regain its natural position economically, socially, culturally and historically, pulsing with hope, work and production.

Dr. Maad Medlaji, head of Aleppo City Council, told SANA reporter that several axes were discussed, including the development and ratification of the building control in the old city to become more flexible, smooth and with simplified procedures to serve citizens, adding that the data in the old city was documented automatically for ease of reference when needed, in addition to setting a program Timetable for the rehabilitation of old markets.

Dr. Sakher Alabi, Director of Aleppo Antiquities, pointed out that the work team concerned with the rehabilitation of the old Aleppo markets has been working for a year and a half on the city’s main market, the building control, and the rehabilitation of the Seif Al-Dawla School, stressing the importance of relying on open dialogue with the community to listen to different points of view, especially with university students as they are a generation The future and they should learn about scientific and practical methodologies and express their opinions through these workshops.

Eng. Tamim Qasmo, Head of the Technical Committee in Old Aleppo, spoke about the results of the work of the working group concerned with setting a strategy for reviving the straight street, which is the main street of the old city market and its branches.

Samar Qario, Director of Decision Support and Regional Planning in Aleppo Governorate, referred to the tasks accomplished by the work team for the rehabilitation of the straight street and its entrances, indicating the importance of developing the old Aleppo building control system and structuring data based on geographic information systems.

Yasser Gawish, head of the Aleppo University branch of the National Union of Syrian Students, pointed out the importance of the university students’ participation in this workshop with the reconstruction team in order to positively invest in the ideas of young people and rely on them in the restoration and rehabilitation processes.

Dr. Fatima Saleh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Aleppo, explained the importance of hearing the views of university students and discussing them for real project work and benefiting from their ideas and points of view that may have a modern and useful vision, in addition to increasing their expertise and experiences on the ground.

Engineer Anahid Najjar from the University of Cordoba stressed the importance of informing students about new methods and new methods of curricula on the ground through these workshops that present the practical experiences that have been completed by the governorate of Aleppo. For engineers and students for future joint work.

For her part, the engineer, Mariette Jabbour, from the Syndicate of Engineers in Aleppo, pointed out that young people have ideas that can be used in rehabilitation and reconstruction, and this comes in the context of sustainable youth development and attention to human resources.

This was confirmed by the young engineer, Ghiath Lababidi, because such workshops lay the foundation stone for the next phase, which is the phase of reconstruction, adding that these workshops gain their importance through the participation of the local community in them.

Among the students of the University of Aleppo, Rima Naasani from the Faculty of Archeology pointed out the usefulness of these workshops to prove the role of young people in the reconstruction phase.

Her colleague Nour Sabouni pointed out that this workshop provided the opportunity for students to work on the ground, after they studied the theoretical aspect in universities, adding that they are able to assist in the restoration and rehabilitation processes.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the engineering team that directly supervises the restoration and rehabilitation works for the Seif Al-Dawla School building was honored.
