The historic old town of Wolfratshausen is to be upgraded.

Now the citizens are presented with the first preliminary drafts.

Wolfratshausen

- Now it's going faster than expected: The Munich office Mahl-Gebhard-Concepts (mgk) will not present the preliminary drafts for the planned upgrading of the old town until after the political summer break. "The preliminary drafts for the redesign of Marktstrasse will be presented to the members of the city council and thus also to the public at the upcoming city council meeting on July 13th," said Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner (BVW) to our newspaper. He did not reveal any details about the drafts in the run-up to the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Loisachhalle.

The project to make the historic old town between the music school and Johannisgasse / Am Bach even more attractive began in autumn 2018 with a public participation process.

The municipality is accompanied by mgk.

According to its own information, the Munich planning office covers “the entire spectrum of the areas of landscape architecture, urban and landscape planning”.

Old town upgrading: Citizens made numerous suggestions

Numerous suggestions came from the ranks of the citizens as to how the quality of stay in the city center could be improved.

These include, among other things, the swiveling of Marktstrasse and the relocation of the Marienbrunnen in order to create more space for events on Marienplatz in front of the parish church, as well as the banishment of the parking spaces from the old town center.

However, the ideas also sparked criticism.

The city councils of the Wolfratshauser List reject what they consider to be an "excessive and expensive expansion" of the city center.

In particular, the proposal to raise federal highway 11 to the level of the sidewalk in order to create a level surface is out of the question for parliamentary group spokesman Helmut Forster.

He fears that in the event of heavy rain the rainwater will flow unhindered over the flat surface into the house entrances and shops.

A few days ago, however, Mayor Heilinglechner affirmed in a conversation with our newspaper that he was sticking to the raising of Marktstrasse.

So far not a word about the costs

Before the outbreak of the corona pandemic, which shook up the schedule of the Prestige project, the tenor in the city council was not to want to keep too many balls in the air. That means: The upgrading of the old town should only begin when the new business and residential building at Untermarkt 7-11 (formerly Isar department store) is up and the renovation or expansion of the municipal building at Untermarkt 10 (Museum Wolfratshausen, Tourist Info) Are completed.

To date, there is no cost estimate for upgrading the old town. The municipality is spending around 100,000 euros on the planning office's preliminary drafts. City hall chief Heilinglechner, under the impression of the economic consequences of the pandemic for the city, declared at the end of last year: "It is a clear goal that we get ahead in the matter." However, he pointed out that in the end it "depends on the financial situation, which measures we can implement ". (cce)
