Benjamin Völker and Maximilian Konstantin from Schongau have already taken the first hurdle on their way to the Bundesliga with the A-Juniors of TSV Herrsching.

The next one follows on Saturday against Coburg.

Schongau

- Of course, his former trainer would also like to be there when Benjamin Völker makes his big appearance this Saturday.

Tanja Rösner has already contacted the 17-year-old handball player whom she once took under her wing as a little boy at TSV Schongau.

In the meantime, the little boy from back then is facing the challenge of the “Junior Bundesliga” together with the A-youths from TSV Herrsching.

In Haunstetten near Augsburg, the Ammersee team will face HSC 2000 Coburg in the semi-finals of the qualification (3 p.m.).

Handball: Benjamin Völker sees his TSV Herrsching as an outsider

“They are the clear favorite,” explains Völker.

And his team is the blatant outsider.

That can, but doesn't have to mean a lot.

The Herrschinger team have already cleared the first heavy chunk out of the way in the quarter-finals with HaSpo Bayreuth.

With 29:18 the Upper Bavaria triumphed over the Upper Franconia.

Völker threw four goals, but was not at all satisfied with his haul and that of his team.

“We could have won with a difference of 20 goals,” he complained about the hit rate against the overwhelmed Bayreuthers, who were all half a head smaller than the Herrschinger team.

It would be awesome if a village club like us knocked out such a big one and then got involved in the Bundesliga.

Benjamin peoples

There can be no question of a size difference against Coburg. The A-youth of the Bundesliga relegated has some talents who are already being prepared for the challenges of the adults. Since the hinterland on the border between Franconia and Thuringia is large, the club's junior performance center has some selected players from the German Handball Federation who have what it takes for a career in the professional field. "It would be awesome if a village club like us knocked out such a big player and then got involved in the Bundesliga," says Völker, pointing out the potential for sensation in the encounter. Not only is a village fighting a city, but also a nameless person from the provinces against the top league of German handball. Peoples would not mindif, for a change, the outsider rocked the thing.

Handball: Only 218 seats at the Herrschinger game in Haunstetten

Because of the pandemic, only 218 seats are available in Haunstetten.

Most of them are already fully booked.

Völkers trainer Tanja Rösner and some of his former Schongau teammates have got hold of tickets.

Anyone who is otherwise interested can try their luck at marketing@handball-herrsching.de.

In addition to Völker, a second Schongauer is also part of the party, Maximilian Konstantin.

Handball: Benjamin Völker has not regretted the move to Herrsching

After three years at TSV, Völker feels like a Herrschinger.

“It absolutely paid off,” he says.

He in no way regrets the move to the Ammersee.

With Christian Kofler and Jürgen Hoffmann, who previously looked after TSV Weilheim, he is training two outstanding coaches who teach him a lot of technical subtleties.

In addition, in Herrsching he encountered a club culture in which handball is lived right down to the deepest pore.

“It's just great what they do for us,” he praises the young man, Max Kilzheimer, in addition to his trainers.

"I would like to repay that."

Handball: Benjamin Völker bears a lot of responsibility in the Herrsching team

Against Coburg, he gets another opportunity to do so. Since captain Julian Taft broke the little finger of his left hand and is also unable to play this game, Völker has to take over his role in the headquarters again. "That is a lot of responsibility that I can now bear quite well," said Völker. He feels up to the task. Without his courageous help, it will not work that a small miracle happens in Haunstetten. “That couldn't be put into words. That would be a huge dream ”, admits the high school student from Weilheim that a victory against Upper Franconia would go beyond the limits of what is imaginable. Even if there are two more rounds against strong teams waiting afterwards, Tanja Rösner is not the only one with both fingers crossed that this dream will come true.
