From the knitted costume of the Belle Époque to the James Bond-style belted briefs of the sixties and the swimming boxer shorts required in municipal swimming pools, swimwear has evolved over the course of male customs and anatomies.
But, on French beaches, the vast majority of men have now adopted shorts (inherited
from surf
board shorts
) with more or less long hem, drawstring at the waist or, for the more sophisticated, equipped with clamping tabs.
According to our estimates, the ideal fit is a straight cut, stopping a few inches above the knee.
