Gauting has a few exhausting weeks ahead of it when Bahnhofstrasse in front of the Sontowski construction site is closed due to sewer work.

Many consider the diversion to be too narrow, especially since there is also a construction site there.

The work should start next week.

Gauting

- It is known how the rerouting will take place during the closure of Bahnhofstrasse in Gauting, but not yet when.

The reason for this: The district office has not yet issued the necessary traffic law order.

The start is next Monday, July 12th.

Retailers and cyclists fear the closure, which is likely to lead to significant disabilities and traffic jams.

What is being built?

The announcement of the blockage came as a complete surprise for many - but the occasion for the community as well. It was foreseeable that work would still be necessary in this area. The list of works includes sewer work to a depth of six meters, street drainage and the expansion of the section of Ammerseestrasse (from house number 2 in the direction of Bahnhofstrasse), the access road of the Sontowski complex ("Karls") to Ammerseestrasse, the expansion of the station crossing - / Ammerseestraße, the confluence of Hubert-Deschler-Straße with Bahnhofstraße, an expansion in the area of Bahnhofplatz 8 and 9 as well as the expansion and connection of the intersection area Bahnhofstraße / Bahnhofplatz / Rafael-Katz-Straße. In addition, shafts will be adjusted and traffic lights will be set up.

Problem with this: Contrary to what was stated in the plan, all supply lines, the so-called divisions, ran at the connections between Bahnhofplatz and Hubert-Deschler-Straße and in some cases exactly in the middle of the street.

The expansion of Bahnhofstrasse, including the sidewalk, will require soil replacement, explained Mayor Dr.

Brigitte Kössinger in the local council these days.

Because: The road is only asphalted on a gravel substructure, nothing more, which was also unknown to this extent.

According to the town hall, the building site is so bad that it deforms under load - the road could later quickly form grooves, sag or something like that. The work should start on July 12th and continue until the end of the summer vacation.

The blocking changes after four weeks.

Why is construction going on?

The expansion of Bahnhofstrasse is directly related to the development of the “Karls” quarter. "With the existing-oriented renovation or expansion taking into account the relevant traffic needs, the community of Gauting has the opportunity to create the characteristic townscape and landscape, to independently develop the uniqueness and life of its community in a favorable environment, as well as the prerequisites for the further development and security of the To create housing development, ”said spokesman Röming.

During the thunderstorms of the past few weeks, some people were surprised that the underpass to Pippinplatz was filled up six times - which it usually does not do during thunderstorms. There is no connection to the work 170 meters further, according to the town hall. The severe thunderstorms would have to be viewed "as extraordinary events", explained Röming. Basically, street drainage systems are and would be dimensioned in such a way that "the accumulating rainwater from the municipal streets can be drained off accordingly". The basis for this are the average rain events of the previous years. In the case of precipitation events of the same magnitude as last, infiltration delays and even "backwater formation" could occur.During the annual road and drainage maintenance work, "measures to improve rainwater disposal are continuously taken within the scope of the possibilities and hazard prevention and in accordance with your priorities". In short, it can be concluded from this: The underpass is fine, the rain was just too heavy.

How do you redirect?

Main square towards Pippinplatz:

During the first four weeks, Bahnhofstrasse in the direction of the train station between Bergstrasse and the train station is blocked.

The diversion runs over Bergstrasse and Jägerstrasse to the confluence with Bahnhofplatz on the corner with Hubertusstrasse (in front of the post office).

Head of Public Order Dr.

Michael Groth has caused a traffic light at the district office that is already there.

Bergstrasse and Jägerstrasse become one-way streets, there is a complete no-stopping ban.

Problem: There is a construction site on Bergstrasse that has recently caused disabilities due to construction trucks. When the diversion was checked, the municipality was not aware of this, as spokesman Röming explains. But: “There is actually a house construction site there. The use of public traffic space for the construction site has not yet been approved. A permit to use public traffic areas that contradicts the necessary diversion cannot be granted. ”That means: This building may have to wait, at least it doesn't get any space on the street for cranes, vehicles or the like.

Pippinplatz in the direction of Hauptplatz:

The traffic continues to be diverted to Raphael-Katz-Strasse in front of the train station, flows over Ammerseestrasse to where it joins Bahnhofstrasse, which is a one-way street in the direction of Hauptplatz. On Raphael-Katz and large parts of Ammerseestrasse, traffic can flow in both directions, as well as on the part of the station square not affected by the closure. It is therefore possible to drive from Pippinplatz to Ammerseestrasse and back without having to be rerouted. Ammerseestrasse is only one-way street in the easternmost part (from elementary school to the junction with Bahnhofstrasse).

After about four weeks of construction, that will change, around mid-August: Then the western part of Bahnhofstrasse will be ready enough for traffic on the right-hand lane, seen downhill, to roll back towards the main square. The confluence of the Ammersee- in the Bahnhofstraße will then be rebuilt and is therefore closed; the Ammerseestrasse inevitably becomes a dead end.

Pedestrians can pass the construction site on designated paths; there are three crossings.

It's not that easy for cyclists.

Local councilor Jens Rindermann (Greens) at the most recent meeting wished for "a relief" at least for cycling downhill towards the town center.

According to the district authorities, the currently narrow sidewalk on the upper Bahnhofstrasse is simply too narrow, the mayor said.

Cyclists are allowed to drive from the train station to the end of Hubert-Deschler-Straße, then have to get off a short distance, push and then go all the way downhill after the traffic lights on Bahnhofstraße.

What do the businessmen fear?

The local council made it clear what consequences the lockdown could have. Trade association boss Harald Ruhbaum had spoken to business people, he reported. An affected, desperate shopkeeper got "wet eyes" because of the complete closure. MiFü representative Ruhbaum asked the mayor whether the community could not open at least a part of it. On the narrowed section with no parking spaces in the construction site area, “the last few months have not been easy,” said the chairman of “Together for Gauting” (ZfG), who sees black for the affected businesses during the closure. "Then we have a nice new Sontowski building, but no more retailers."

“I understand your concern,” Kössinger replied in the meeting.

No other solution was found at an on-site meeting with the district office.

Nothing will change for retailers such as health food stores, kebab shops, perfumeries, stationery dealers or gift shops.

Up until now, they could only be reached on foot or by pushing a bike along the narrow sidewalk.

There were also no parking spaces directly in front of the shops in the previous construction phase, recalled Kössinger.

What are the consequences of the closure for the buses?

That is within limits. The regional bus routes 936, 949, 965, 966, 968 and X910 are to be rerouted from Monday, July 12th and until August 1st coming from the center of Gauting via Bergstrasse and Jägerstrasse to the train station, i.e. via the regular rerouting . The regional bus routes 949 and X910 coming from the west will be taken to the train station via Unterbrunner Strasse and Pippinplatz, according to the district's planning.
