Why the world's most desired watch should break records in Monaco

NEW - On July 21, a rare Patek Philippe Nautilus in steel with an olive green dial will be auctioned at Antiquorum. A lot that will certainly unleash passions.

But where can she come from?

Lot no. 152 from the next Antiquorum auction at the Hôtel de Paris, in Monaco, is a Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref.

Brand new 5711 / 1A-014, still sealed.

A steel timepiece, one of the most famous in existence, with its olive glass dial.

This watch is estimated at between 50,000 and 150,000 euros, but it could well sell for several hundred thousand euros.

The reason: it has just been released and is so rare that no copy is even available from the Parisian salons of the Geneva house.

A watch offered for € 30,400, but reserved for Patek Philippe's most loyal customers, already at auction?

This is paradoxical.

Indeed, this piece was not unveiled, to everyone's surprise, until last April, this copy was clearly bought to be immediately resold.

It must be said that the added value that its owner can expect fully justifies it.

However, this tribute edition was supposed to mark the withdrawal from the market of the model with blue dial and steel case, the most legendary and the most sought after of the Nautilus 5711. In the end, it seems rather that the release of these new versions has in fact come to nourish the exponential speculation existing around the cult watch of Patek Philippe than the reverse.

For the record, one of the most desired watches on the planet, perhaps too much, will no longer be produced as of this year.

Symbol of sport chic style if ever there is one, it is alongside Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak (launched in 1972) the symbol of a new era of watchmaking, where steel models sell for gold.

The reference 5711 / 1A-010, for purists, was launched in 2006, thirty years after the original creation signed by legendary designer Gerald Genta.

A watch that has become cult among its curves, its octagonal bezel, its integrated steel bracelet and its textured blue dial.

This first auction of a model with an olive green dial should help to set the real value of this Patek Philippe Ref.

5711 / 1A on the market.

Collectors will they be willing to pay five times, ten times its current price in store, just not to wait to own it and avoid any waiting list?

Answer on July 21 in Monaco.

In the same sale Romain Réa, CEO of Antiquorum, will also offer other flagship timepieces of the house, including a steel Aquanaut with an extremely rare plum red dial (Lot 154, est. 67,000 - 118,000 €) and a astonishing Ref 4424/1, (Lot 151, est. 60,000 - 120,000 €) an oval shaped 18K yellow gold ladies' wristwatch with matching necklace and bracelet.
