The attempt to smuggle weapons, among the largest in recent years, was thwarted yesterday (Friday) near the village of Rajar on the Lebanese border.
Police and army forces seized 43 weapons with a total value of about NIS 2,700,000.
Fearing an attempt to infiltrate and a security incident, IDF forces and the Border Unit of the Northern District Police (JGL) were called to the border area and sent light bombs into the air while conducting searches in the area.
The IDF is examining, among other things, the possibility that the smuggling attempt was carried out with the help of Hezbollah, and the police are examining several lines of investigation regarding who is behind the smuggling attempt. This incident comes against the background of the deep economic and political crisis Lebanon is experiencing these days.

Since the beginning of 2021, five significant drug and arms smuggling operations on the Lebanese border have been thwarted by security forces: in February, 12 kilograms of drugs were seized and a suspect was arrested on the Israeli side of the border.
In April, two pistols and two kilograms of drugs were seized in the Metula area, and several suspects were arrested on the Israeli side.
During two smuggling attempts in June, 15 pistols, 36 kilograms of drugs and dozens of ammunition cartridges were seized, and a number of suspects were arrested on the Israeli side.
In another incident, 12 pistols were seized.
