Jakarta-Sana
An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit North Sumatra, Indonesia, today.
"The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km, 75 km northwest of Nias Utara province in Sumatra," Xinhua quoted the Indonesian Meteorology and Climatology Agency as saying.
A 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit northern Indonesia last night, without a tsunami warning issued.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia is often prone to earthquakes because it is located in a region called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes and tremors are frequent.
