New Territories South Region Crime Squad Senior Inspector Lam Pik-ka said that the police received 14 cases of conspiracy to defraud using low-interest loans as incentives. The scammers called the victims in the form of "Cold Call", claiming to provide low-interest loans, and then the victims. Was referred to a fake bank employee.

The case involved about 940,000 yuan. The 14 victims were between 28 and 64 years old, with losses ranging from more than 10,000 yuan to 280,000 yuan.

The suspect encouraged the victim to get back the MPF with the reason of claiming to leave Hong Kong or retirement. The suspect received the money and falsely claimed it for investment purposes. In fact, the money absconded, and the victim with the largest loss was defrauded of about 287,000 MPF. Gold contributions.

After police investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested in Kwun Tong District yesterday (9th). At that time, the male suspect had just obtained money from a 54-year-old victim and went to a money exchange shop in Tsuen Wan to remit the money to the Mainland. The police successfully intercepted more than 100,000 funds.

The police arrested two suspects, including a 34-year-old man surnamed Lin Wuye and a 32-year-old woman surnamed Liang Bao called a housewife. The two were married.

The police remind members of the public to beware of unknown calls if they need to borrow money, including verifying the identity of the relevant staff with the bank. If encountering similar situations, they should report to the police for help, and urge members of the public not to leave Hong Kong or retire, not to make false statements to get back their MPF funds.

The police stated that anyone who commits fraud can be sentenced to a maximum of 14 years in prison upon conviction.
