The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is updating its list of corona risk areas.

The corona situation is constantly changing in Europe.

This has consequences for vacationers.

Berlin - It was probably just a matter of time.

The corona infection numbers are exploding in some countries in Europe.

The corona pandemic is not over yet.

Corona cases are skyrocketing in Spain.

The holiday country is on the verge of the fourth corona wave, experts warn.

The Delta variant can apparently hardly be stopped - in the middle of the holiday season, of all things.

Spain back on the list of corona risk areas

According to a media report, the federal government wants to

classify

all of

Spain

as a corona risk area.

As the Funke media group reported on Thursday, citing government

circles,

Cyprus

is also

to be declared a high incidence area and a quarantine obligation for those returning to travel who have not been vaccinated or have recovered will be introduced.

Cyprus was previously classified as an easy risk area.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) publishes the list of corona risk areas and the federal government's new corona classifications for foreign countries every Friday.

The final decision by the responsible ministries for health, the interior and foreign affairs is usually made shortly beforehand.

Risk area: These are the different levels

  • Risk areas

: Countries and regions are classified as risk areas if the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days (7-day incidence) is over 50.

It is the lowest of three risk levels.

A negative test result must always be available before departure.

  • High incidence areas

: The classification is for areas with particularly high risk of infection by a particularly high incidence in the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

Anyone who returns from such a region and is not fully vaccinated or recovered has to be in quarantine for ten days, but can shorten this with a negative test after five days.

  • Virus variant areas

: The classification is based on a virus variant and the spread of the virus variant (mutation), which does not occur widespread in Germany and which poses a particular risk.

    After staying in

    virus variant areas,

     the

    quarantine

    lasts

    14 days

and premature termination of the quarantine is not possible - not even for those who have been vaccinated or who have recovered.

Corona: That's the situation in Portugal

Portugal and the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores have been a high incidence area since July 7th.

At the end of June 2021, Portugal had been classified as a virus variant area.

That made many vacationers incomprehensible.

Tour operators started a return campaign to save tourists the 14-day quarantine.

In Portugal, the corona situation has been worsening for many weeks. The nationwide 14-day incidence, which was 55 a month ago, recently rose to 247. This is mainly due to the spread of the delta variant. A night-time blocking was reintroduced a few days ago to contain this. In the regions with a particularly bad location (including the capital Lisbon), people are only allowed on the streets between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. with good reason.
