They are fighting for a nicer Kneipp island

Not least because of the 200th birthday of Pastor Sebastian Kneipp, Kneipp facilities are on everyone's lips.

There is also a treading pool in Fürstenfeldbruck.

But the Kneipp island does not live up to its name.

Antonie Ochmann agrees that she is shabby.

The 95-year-old demands: the city absolutely has to do something.

Fürstenfeldbruck -

In the summer months Antonie Ochmann goes to the Kneipp island on the Amper almost every day. Like other Bruckers, she enjoys exercising in the cool water and being refreshed. What the 95-year-old doesn't like at all is the ambience. The view of the Amper has grown over. Pizza boxes, bags of chips, cigarette butts and broken glass bottles lie next to instead of in the rubbish bins. "It's really a shame how it looks now."

Sebastian Kneipp almost built a Kneipp facility in Fürstenfeldbruck, as Ochmann's mother once told her.

But the project failed, today the only cold-water healing facility built by the pastor himself is in Bad Wörishofen, the parish's hometown.

Maybe that's a good thing, says the elderly woman and laughs.

The village with ten courtyards changed fundamentally with the spa complex.

And finally there was also a first Kneipp pool in Bruck, on the embankment behind the Weiherhaus.

This followed later on the Kneipp island.

As a child she was already doing Kneipp therapy with her mother and has kept the custom.

Ochmann still has an old postcard from 1952. You can see people sitting on the benches in front of the treadmill. All around are wooden slats, beautiful flowers bloom all around. “That's how I want it to look again,” says the senior citizen. Then more people would come there again.

But that was once upon a time. The Kneipp island is degenerating more and more into a party zone. Young people meet there, drink and leave their rubbish - hidden behind bushes. "It's not visible," says Ochmann, referring to the overgrown river banks. She sometimes clears away cigarette butts and broken glass herself. The building yard employees take care of the pool. “The water is fine.” The rest of the time, however, is not. And that despite the fact that the building yard employees take the trash with them on the Kneipp island three times a week. "Unfortunately, there is no more time," explains a city hall spokeswoman.

Citizens who live near amperes have already called the city several times, reports Antonie Ochmann.

Your wish: The Kneipp island should be restored.

Above all, the undergrowth on the north side would have to be removed so that one can enjoy the view of the Amper up to the Amperbrücke again.

“Not the trees, they should stay there,” says Ochmann.

Wood instead of the uneven stone tiles, benches facing the bank and flowers again - that is what she would also like.

Overall, it is planned that the administration and the building yard take care of a more neat appearance, said the town hall spokeswoman.

Additional benches are currently not planned.

Ochmann's hope lies in the development of the Aumühlen and Länd area.

Then the Kneipp island should also become a place of rest and relaxation, she thinks.

In the town hall, too, they are certain that the redesign of the site will give the Kneipp island a completely different status.

Because it was part of the urban planning competition last year, as City Councilor Klaus Wollenberg (FDP) confirmed.

There are no concrete plans, and it will be a few years before work on the area begins.

“But you could do something beforehand on the Kneipp island,” says Wollenberg.

That would be entirely in the spirit of Antonie Ochmann and her colleagues.

“I'm fighting for it,” she says.
