After the Kemmerich scandal and Corona, Thuringia should elect again - but this venture could also fail.

The CDU and the left cover themselves with allegations before the impending disaster.

Erfurt - Not only the Bundestag is to be re-elected on September 26th: Thuringia also wants to conclude a sometimes highly chaotic legislative period on this date - with new elections.

But whether that will succeed is still unclear: On Monday next week (July 19), the state parliament would have to dissolve.

However, there have been doubts about the success of this operation for weeks.

In the meantime, the opposition and the government are covering themselves with accusations.

Exit open.

Thuringia before the next state parliament scandal?

Dissolution could fail - because of CDU dissenters

In essence, the step is necessary because there are no stable majorities in the Erfurt Landtag. A red-red-green minority government ruled by its boss Bodo Ramelow (left) - including minimal cooperation with the Christian Democrats: Both sides want to forego looking for majorities beyond mutual cooperation, especially in the AfD camp. A solution that the CDU was rather reluctant to support after the scandal about the free choice of FDP politician Thomas Kemmerich with AfD votes for Prime Minister - especially to avoid a government crisis in the corona pandemic.

In order for things to go ahead, the state parliament has to dissolve itself with a two-thirds majority.

Whether this majority can be found is questionable, however, mainly due to votes from the CDU parliamentary group.

Its chairman Mario Voigt is now raising allegations against Ramelow.

"I perceive that we now have a very, very silent head of government when it comes to the question of a new election," said Voigt of the dpa.

As Prime Minister, Ramelow has management responsibility for the entire country, so he must publicly show his colors, demanded Voigt.

CDU and Ramelow in a clinch ahead of the planned new election in Thuringia: "The only one who cannot deliver ..."

Ramelow was irritated and vehemently rejected the allegations.

"The Prime Minister does not have to interfere in the affairs of Parliament," he told the dpa and: "The only one who cannot deliver is Mr. Voigt."

In the dissolution vote, 60 votes will be required.

Left, SPD, Greens and CDU together have 63 votes.

However, four CDU MPs had announced that they would not agree to the dissolution - that would mean there would be one vote too few.

This is to be compensated by the vote of the MP Ute Bergner, who has since left the FDP but is still a member of the parliamentary group.

There are, however, considerable reservations in parts of the Left Group against this solution.

Voigt said he got the impression that Ramelow didn't want the new election at all. "Just as I fight for unity in the CDU and the new elections, I naturally expect that from him too," said Voigt. Ramelow is a member of the Left parliamentary group and can therefore also influence it. Left MP Anja Müller contradicted it on Twitter. She located the problems with the Christian Democrats: Voigt had "neither his parliamentary group behind him, nor a majority in his CDU parliamentary group" for the dissolution of the state parliament, she railed.
