Burggen has a first mayor again.

In the new election on Sunday, 61.2 percent of the voters voted for Josef Schuster - a clear result.

Burggen

- "We didn't notice something", two people from Burggen initially pondered as they waited on Sunday just before 6 p.m. alone in front of the gym where the mayoral vote was to be counted. In fact, only gradually around twenty citizens came - mainly local councilors, the two candidates Josef Schuster and Richard Lang and their relatives. However, one cannot conclude that there was little interest in the election: In fact, 82.38 percent of those eligible to vote had cast their vote. More than in the regular election in March 2020.

The result was quite clear: Josef Schuster from the Burggen citizens' list received 61.2 percent of the vote (678) on Sunday, while only 37.3 percent of the voters voted for Richard Lang from the Independent Community of Voters (413).

For comparison: in the previous year Josef Schuster received 56.21 percent of the vote, Richard Lang 41.55 percent.

Mayoral election in Burggen: Josef Schuster is happy about the result

“Very happy and happy” he was about the result, said Josef Schuster after the announcement.

The fact that so many people from the Burggener have expressed their trust in him is a relief and shows that they are satisfied with his work.

"But it is also an obligation to give everything again now," said Schuster.

After all, there are a lot of big projects coming up.

He is thinking, among other things, of the village community center and the task of creating more building land.

“It's nice that so many people from Burggen took part in the election,” says Schuster.

After all, it was only a year ago since the last vote.

Also because it was only possible to vote by letter, it was difficult for him to estimate how many would vote.

The fact that he was now even able to increase the lead in votes shows that "many saw the election contestation differently than the protagonists," said Josef Schuster.

The comparison to the previous year always fluctuated due to the same candidate constellation.

Nevertheless, it is important to go into the future together.

Josef Schuster hope for a more harmonious cooperation in the local council.

Quasi on "a new start."

Mayoral election in Burggen: “A bitter blow” for Richard Lang

Richard Lang reacted disappointed to the clear result: "It is a bitter blow." Because of the contestation of the election, the administrative court finally got it right and "issued a good letter of explanation" (we reported).

Nevertheless: “You have to accept that it turned out like this.” In the interests of the community, things must now continue together.

The election committee will meet on Tuesday and will probably confirm the preliminary result, said Thomas Natter, managing director of the Bernbeuren administrative community and election officer.

Josef Schuster could then take over the mayor's office on the following working day, i.e. on Wednesday, said Natter.
