The Protestant parish hall in Miesbach has not yet been completely renovated.

But the parish is already looking for a name - and anyone can participate.

Miesbach

- The construction site at the Protestant church is making progress.

The new rectory building is due to move into in July.

The renovation of the community center and the construction of a new foyer, which will then function as a meeting center, will then begin.

In addition, the parish, which is responsible for the Miesbach, Hausham, Irschenberg, Wall, Weyarn, and Wörnsmühl area, has started a competition: New names are being sought for the parish hall and the planned inclusion café, which should always be open on Thursdays parallel to the Green Market .

We spoke to Pastor Erwin Sergel about the background to the action.

Mr Sergel, the parish hall and café are to be named.

Why?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

We believe that we can create space for new ideas with the renovated house.

We are pleased that we volunteers, creative people and people who are looking for space for a social project will be able to open the doors even better in the future.

We have a vision of open space, especially for the new foyer.

It should be a lively meeting place for everyone.

And that needs a name.

So that it gets its own identity, so to speak.

W

because he runs the name search?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

Ideas and suggestions can be submitted by September 19 in the parish office's mailbox or by email to pastor amt.miesbach@elkb.de.

But please do not forget the sender and address, because the winner will receive a small surprise prize.

A jury will then select four to five from the proposals submitted.

After the service on Thanksgiving on October 3rd at 12 noon, everyone present will vote on it.

What qualities should the two names have?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

They should be positive and handy.

The relationship to the church would be good, as well as to the city of Miesbach and the new one that is emerging.

We are very excited about this ourselves.

Should the names be more religious or secular?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

We are totally open about that.

We don't want to restrict the creativity of the participants.

Overall, I can say - and I agree with the church council - that we have great confidence in the people that they will find a good, suitable name.

What's up with the café?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

There will be a café in the new foyer every Thursday at market time, which will be run by students from the Anton Weilmaier School in Hausham and by volunteer supervisors.

With the café, the pupils get to know working life.

We're also looking for a name for the café.

How about you

Do you also take part in the name search?

Do you already have a name?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

Yes, I already have an idea.

So I'm doing it too.

What is the likelihood that your proposal will be treated particularly favorably?

Pastor Erwin Sergel:

That is not possible.

Because the jury will only get the suggestions without knowing who they are from.

But that will all work out.

There's a lot going on with us at the moment.

The ideas are just sprouting - it's a really great process.

After all, it is about the church of the future: How should life in the church community develop in our time?

We definitely want to become a meeting place - inclusive and for everyone.
