This eminently political and infantilizing measure which extended to the deserted streets of cities in the middle of the night, to the vast expanses of sand and to the remote mountain paths, seemed to have finally known an epilogue when the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, announced June 16, 2021 that wearing a mask would no longer be mandatory outdoors from the next day.
