A mountaineer in his sixties had a fatal fall on Sunday while he was climbing in the Ecrins massif.
The alert was given around 11:30 am.
The victim was with a companion near the Pavé refuge, at an altitude of 2,500 meters, in the town of Villar-d'Arêne (Hautes-Alpes).

According to the first elements, the pair which was not roped up was climbing Pointe Claire, when the sixty-year-old suffered an accidental fall from nearly 200 meters.
His companion, who is unharmed, was taken care of by rescuers from the CRS des Alpes de Grenoble, helicoptered on site by Civil Security.
A judicial inquiry was opened to determine the circumstances of the death and entrusted to the CRS des Alpes.
